Processes
Process identity and ProcessGuard kill behaviour in PortPilot.
PortPilot shows process identity for a listening port: pid, executable, command line, user, and start time when the OS provides them.
Kill
Kill process is a Free CoreControls action. It uses ProcessGuard: pid + start time + executable. That prevents killing the wrong process if the pid was reused.
There is no kill-by-bare-pid API and no shell.
Desktop: port actions → Kill Process. Website: Kill process. The CLI does not expose kill (use the UI).
Expected result
The process exits and the port disappears on the next scan.
Common problems
If kill fails, the process may have exited, you may lack helper permission, or ProcessGuard rejected a mismatch. Re-scan and try again. Confirmation is required in Safe/Smart automation modes.
