What works locally versus what PortPilot Cloud adds: dashboard, sync, notifications, and backups.
Local-first
Without an account, the agent still discovers ports, stores history in SQLite, talks to Desktop/CLI over local IPC, and runs Free core controls (kill, services) via the helper.
What Cloud is
PortPilot Cloud is the website account plus the optional paid Cloud subscription. Pairing uses Cloud even on Free (one machine).

Pro (lifetime) without Cloud
Firewall mutate, ngrok tunnels, and extra machine seats. No durable history sync, email/in-app notification product, or account backups.
Cloud subscription extras
- Sync — durable history into Cloud (paired machines)
- Notifications — in-app and email (offline, unhealthy, tunnel, service stopped, firewall changed, and similar)
- Backups — account metadata (prefs, machine display names, notification prefs, bounded history summaries). Restore does not include credentials. Last 5 backups.
Cloud includes the Pro feature set while the subscription is active. Default seats: max(Pro seats, 3).
Cancel-at-period-end keeps Cloud until the paid period ends. After Cloud expires, local Free/Pro core continues; Cloud APIs return entitlement required.
