How to troubleshoot localhost ports

Debug 127.0.0.1 vs 0.0.0.0 binds, failed loopback HTTP, and stale processes.

localhost issues are often bind-address issues.

  • App bound to 127.0.0.1 will not accept LAN clients
  • App bound to 0.0.0.0 may still fail app-layer HTTP
  • IPv6 ::1 vs IPv4 127.0.0.1 surprises browsers

PortPilot shows the actual bind. Diagnose runs loopback HTTP checks and will say Unknown rather than inventing internet reachability.

  1. portpilot port <n> or desktop port detail
  2. Confirm process still alive
  3. Run Diagnose
  4. Kill/restart the owner if it is a ghost listener
